GUWAHATI: State CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) Nitin Khade has said that the vigilance agencies have seized cash, drugs, liquor and various other items worth Rs 110 crore till March 30, 2021 since the MCC (Model Code of Conduct) for the Assam Assembly poll was enforced in the State on February 26.

The break-up of the seizures are: Rs 24.50 crore in cash; liquor worth Rs 33.44 crore; gold, and jewellery worth Rs 3.68 crore and other items worth Rs 14.91 crore. The Static Surveillance Teams and Flying Squads made these seizures during operations carried out by them across the State.

Sharing this with the media here on Wednesday, Khade said, "So far, 50 FIRs (First Information Reports)/police cases relating to poll expenditure and 5,234 FIRs relating to Excise law violations have been lodged in the State. In case of MCC violation, we've got good response from the public through our 'cVigil' app. As many as 1,272 cases have been registered through this app so far, and 908 cases of them have been found to be correct. All the 908 cases have been examined and disposed of."

IGP (Law & Order) Dipak Kedia, who was also present at the press briefing, said, "We've registered 5,234 FIRs against Excise law violations. While as many as 5,410 legal arms have been deposited, 50 illegal arms and 877 ammunition have been seized so far.

"All the inter-State boundaries and international borders with Assam are under strict vigil. We've already held 42 sittings with our counterparts along the borders. The force at our disposal is being used at an optimum level so as to ensure free-and-fair poll. We're taking action against all anti-social elements."

On the deployment of forces for the second phase of the polls to be held on Thursday, Kedia said, "As many as 310 CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) companies have been deployed, besides the State police personnel."
