Centre allocates Rs 5,470 crore for Assam under PMAY-G

Guwahati: The Centre has approved the tentative annual financial allocation of Rs 5,470.51 crore for Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in the current financial year of 2025-26. As of mid-June, the Government of India approved a tentative allocation of Rs 47,474.58 crore for 18 states in the country.

Assam has been placed in the first list of 18 states that have received the allocation. Besides Assam, the only other state from the Northeast placed in this list is Manipur. As per the guidelines of the scheme, at the onset of the financial year, the Annual Financial Allocation is decided for each State/UT on the basis of the previous year’s performances, houses pending for completion and utilisation of available funds & targets allocated in the current year. The allocation of targets and budget is given to the States/UTs every financial year based on the Annual Action Plan submitted by the respective State/UT Government. During the current year, as of June 17, 2025, funds have been allocated to 18 states which have been given targets under the new phase of the scheme.

According to the Union Ministry of Rural Development, the tentative annual financial allocation for Assam is Rs 5470.51 crore, while Manipur has been allocated Rs 46.18 crore for PMAY-G.

Another report from the ministry stated that the target for Assam for construction of houses under the scheme is 29,87,868. Till July this year, 28,71,051 houses have been sanctioned and 20,69,648 houses have been completed.

In order to achieve the target of “Housing for All” in rural areas, the Ministry of Rural Development is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) with effect from April 1, 2016, to provide assistance to eligible rural households with an overall target to construct 4.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities by 2029. The Union Cabinet approved the implementation of the PMAY-G for the construction of 2 crore additional rural houses during FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29.
