Minority community students from financially weak backgrounds need not worry about their higher education. The Assam Minority Development Board (AMDB) has launched a higher education curriculum for students from minority communities -like Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis- whose annual family income is not more than Rs 2 lakh.
Students can take up courses like BMLT (Bachelor in Medical Laboratory & Technology), which is a three-and-half year undergraduate course, DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory & Technology) which is a 2-year diploma course, and Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) course, which is a 2-year diploma course. The government will bear 90 per cent of the expenses of the students enrolling in these courses while the students will have to bear just 10 per cent of the course fee.
In addition, minority students can also enrol for coaching for medical and engineering entrance exams and Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) exam. This coaching will be for six months and the government will bear the entire expenditure.
