GUWAHATI: The unrelenting Covid-19 situation in the Kamrup (M) district is still a cause of concern for the State Government. Seven GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) wards are still vulnerable.

However, the overall Covid-19 situation in the state has improved to a great extent.

It has come to light in the data analysis of Covid-19 cases conducted by the Health Department in the

Metropolitan district. According to the analysis, during the seven days from August 7-13, Covid-19 positive cases in the seven vulnerable wards are still high. During the seven days, the department detected 100 cases in Ward No 28 (Basistha, Bormotoria, Gorchuk and Hatigaon); 99 cases in Ward No 31 (Khanapara, Panjabari, Six Mile, Nine Mile, Sonapur, Jorabat and Downtown); 96 in Ward No 26 (Beltola, Kahilipara, Rukminigaon and Basisthapur); 63 in Ward No 13 (Pub Sarania, Lachit Nagar, Gandhibasti, Ulubari, Rajgarh, South Sarania and Silpukhuri); 49 in Ward No 24 (Narengi, Birkuchi and Gitanagar); 47 in Ward No 23 (Bamunimaidam, Noonmati and Lalmati) and 46 in Ward No 25 (Satgaon, Hengrabari, Sorumotoria and Barbari).

Another analysis shows that during the ten days from August 8-17, the department detected 1,453 Covid-19 positive cases in the metropolitan district. Covid-19 cases fluctuate in the district. The department detected 90 cases on August 15, 163 on August 16, and 153 cases on August 17 in the district.

Talking to The Sentinel, GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital) Principal Dr Achyut Chandra Baishya said, "One of the reasons behind the Covid-19 not relenting up to our expectation in the Kamrup Metropolitan district is people not following Covid-appropriate behaviour. Many people in the district have stopped wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Many people have masks with them, but they don't wear them properly. Of late, more cases of infections from family members keep coming. We appeal to the people of the district to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour to help check the pandemic."
