GUWAHATI: Dengue keeps spreading to more districts. The total number of dengue cases detected in the state was 427 yesterday since November 1. However, the number of cases rose to 551 today.

According to official sources, the number of dengue cases is the highest in the Karbi Anglong district. The district registered 400 cases yesterday, and the number rose to 478 today.

The vector-borne disease has also spread to the Kamrup (M) district. The number of dengue cases in the metro district was 11 yesterday, and the total rose to 29 today.

The disease broke out in 14 districts till yesterday. Today health officials detected dengue cases in 27 districts in the state.

According to official sources, NHM (National Health Mission) and district health officials are taking preventive measures.

According to sources, prevention is the only cure for this fever. Health authorities lay stress on cleanliness. They advise people not to allow stagnation of water in their surroundings.

The symptoms of dengue are a pain in the abdomen, back of eyes, bones, joints and muscles, chill in the entire body, fatigue, loss of appetite, rashes in the skin etc.

Dengue has no specific medicine for its treatment. Adequate rest and drinking plenty of fluids are a must to stay hydrated. Warning signs usually begin 24-48 hours after the fever goes away.

Of the 13 severe dengue cases in Kamrup (M), nine patients are in the GMCH, and the rest are in private hospitals. All 29 serious patients in the Karbi Anglong district are in government hospitals.
