GUWAHATI: Around ten lakh target people are yet to take the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the state. A door-to-door drive got underway today to ensure 100 percent vaccination of the first dose by November 27.

To make the drive a success, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a meeting with deputy commissioners, top NHM (National Health Mission) officers, top officials of the Directorate of Health and others yesterday.

Health Department sources said that teams comprising health workers, ASHA workers, Gaon Buras and VDP (Village Defence Party) members started a door-to-door visit with the voter list as the base document. They are preparing lists of target people who have not taken the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine yet. The listing of target people will continue till November 21.

From November 22, the drive to inoculate the first dose of the vaccine will start. And this mega drive will continue and complete the process to ensure 100 per cent vaccination of the first dose by November 27.

The Chief Minister, ministers, MLAs, top bureaucrats, health officials and others will monitor the vaccination drive. Each team is the in-charge of a polling station.

The target population for Covid-19 vaccination in Assam set by the Centre is 2.33 crore. However, the target came down to 2.28 crore when compared with the voter list. Around 15 lakh target people have not taken the Covid-19 vaccine because of pregnancy, old age, ailments etc. Deducting them, the target population for vaccination stands at 2.13 crore in the state. Since 2.03 crore of the target population have taken the first dose of the vaccine, around 10 lakh people are yet to take it.

Till Tuesday, 2.03 crore people took the first dose, and 90.25 lakh took the second dose. Thus, the medical fraternity in the state vaccinated a total of 2.93 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

The government said that there is no scarcity of Covid-19 vaccines in the state. The government only wants cooperation from the people.
