GUWAHATI: Finance Minister Ajanta Neog has rubbished the comment from a section saying that 'the financial health of Assam is weak'.

She said, "The government is doing all development works. The employees are getting their salaries on time, besides old-age pension etc. We are paying the MFI (Micro Finance Institution) loan incentives. The process for the promised jobs to one lakh youths is underway. How can the government do these if the financial health is weak?

"Another section says that Assam is getting less central funds due to the abolition of the special status to the state. It is not true. The 11th Finance Commission awarded Assam around Rs 22,600 crore. On the contrary, the 14th Finance Commission awarded Assam around Rs 1.81 lakh crore.

"We have streamlined many ways of revenue collection, leading to the increase in revenue collection. And our effort is to augment revenue collection.

"A section wants to say that the government runs with funds taken as loans. It is also not true. We take loans within the parameter of the Government of India's guidelines. We get loans as we can repay them. We are using the loans for developmental works. The people who know nothing about finance make such comments."
