GUWAHATI: AHSEC (Assam Higher Secondary Education Council) lodged an FIR at Chandmari Police Station this evening following allegations of an HS (Higher Secondary) final question leak from some quarters.
The candidates took the Chemistry examination on February 28. Around 5.30 pm, news started doing the rounds in the social media regarding allegations of a leak of the HS Chemistry question paper. According to allegations, a handwritten question paper leaked a day before the Chemistry examination. And the handwritten questions tallied with the questions on the original question paper.
When The Sentinel contacted a top AHSEC official, he said, “We had no complaint or information regarding the leak of the Chemistry question during the examination. We received phone calls from some quarters regarding the alleged leak of the question paper through the electronic mode. We have no mechanism to detect if at all there was a leak of the question paper. We lodged an FIR at Chandmari Police Station today to ascertain if there was any leak of question papers.”
In another statement, AHSEC said, “The HS candidates should not bother over the allegation of question paper leak. They should prepare for their subsequent examinations.”
Meanwhile, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the allegation had no basis.
On the other hand, the AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, and AHSEC chairman Dr Rukma Gohain Baruah, demanding a high-level inquiry into the allegation. In a statement, AASU president in-charge Utpal Sarma and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, “Before the HS examinations, we did request the AHSEC to hold examinations without any leaving lapses. The allegation of question paper leakage is a serious matter. The students and their guardians are a demoralised lot now.”
