GUWAHATI: The current wave of floods has hit 16 districts in the State. The affected districts are Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia.

As per the flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the flood has affected 732 villages in 16 districts with 2,58,191 population. Floodwaters submerged crop areas measuring around 24704.86 hectares, besides damaging roads, bridges, culverts and other infrastructure, the bulletin added.

The floodwater has also entered Kaziranga National Park and submerged some large animal habitat areas. The animals inside the park have moved to highlands. The speed limit on the national highway that passes through the park has been restricted to save animals. Pobitora wildlife sanctuary has also been hit by floods.
