Four ULFA(I) Cadres Surrender to Assam Rifles in Arunachal’s Longding

Itanagar: Four hardcore cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) surrendered before the Assam Rifles near the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district on Friday, an official report said.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the paramilitary force launched a planned operation in the Chupkhaw Track area under the Wakka circle in Longding district.

During the operation, sustained persuasion by the security forces encouraged the insurgents to renounce violence and join the national mainstream, an official report said.

All four cadres voluntarily laid down their arms without any exchange of fire or casualties, it said.

Security forces recovered four pistols along with 17 rounds of live ammunition from the surrendered cadres.

The successful operation underscores the security forces' commitment to restoring lasting peace in the border region and facilitating the rehabilitation of misguided youth through dialogue and confidence-building measures, the report added.
