GUWAHATI: The State Health Department has widened the definition of 'frontline workers' to allow more people of the age group 18-59 years to take the precautionary or booster dose of Covid-19 in government health institutions.

The people of this age group are eligible for the booster dose, but only the paid ones in private medical institutions. Only frontline workers and 60+ people can now take the free-of-cost booster dose in government health institutions.

According to Health Department sources, the widened definition of 'frontline workers' covers various officers and employees of state and Central governments, media persons, municipal board employees and some other target groups and government agencies not yet specified. The Health Department will issue a notification to this effect shortly.

Meanwhile, 4,92,847 people took the booster dose in the state till 6 pm today. As many as 4,55,70,594 people took the first, second, and the booster doses of the vaccine in Assam. The vaccination drive under the Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 covered around 83,000 people yesterday. Health Minister Keshab Mahanta launched this drive yesterday.

According to the Health Department, over 71 lakh vaccines are in stock in the state.
