Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi on Monday turned the tables on the BJP over the issue of illegal infiltration, questioning why the problem persists after ten years of the party being in power in the state.
"The Congress government has not been in power in Assam for the past 10 years. A double-engine government has been running here for the past 10 years. But why is infiltration still happening?" Gogoi said.

The Congress leader went further, raising related law enforcement concerns that he said remain unaddressed under the current administration.
"Why is cattle smuggling still taking place across the border? How is the syndicate of drugs and betel nut still operating here? We want to know what the state government will do about these things," he added.
The remarks are a pointed counter to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has repeatedly raised illegal infiltration as a central issue in the run-up to the Assam Assembly elections — framing it as a threat to the state's demographic balance.
By highlighting infiltration, cattle smuggling, and the drug trade as unresolved problems under BJP rule, Gogoi is attempting to reframe the narrative — arguing that a party which has governed Assam for a decade cannot continue to blame previous administrations for the state's ongoing challenges.
