Guwahati: 3 lakh in Assam to get new PMAY-G houses

Guwahati: Assam will soon get around 3 lakh new houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) - Gramin for beneficiaries in rural areas. This was revealed today by state Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass.

Talking to The Sentinel, Minister Dass said, "So far, 20.28 lakh houses have been completed in the state under PMAY-G, and around 5 lakh houses are in different stages of construction. Currently, Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan is on a four-day Northeast visit. On May 17, he will participate in a meeting in Guwahati. According to our knowledge, around 3 lakh new houses will be sanctioned for PMAY-G beneficiaries, but the actual figure will be revealed by the Union Minister during the meeting on Saturday."

Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass further said, "There are many more eligible families slated to derive the benefit under PMAY-G. Regarding the selection of new beneficiaries, a survey is currently underway."

Regarding the recently concluded Panchayat election in the state, Minister Dass said, "The new panchayats will be formed shortly."
