Guwahati: In a significant decision involving the top-most post in Assam Police, Harmeet Singh has been formally promoted and posted as the Director General of Police, Assam, in addition to his responsibilities as the Director General of Civil Defence & Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam.

Harmeet Singh, an IPS officer of the 1992 batch, has been performing his duty of DGP, Assam (in-charge) after officially taking over charge from former DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh on January 29.

The state government’s Home (A) Department issued a notification stating that Harmeet Singh, IPS, Director General of Police (in-charge), Assam, and Director General of Civil Defence & Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam, has been promoted and posted as Director General of Police, Assam. As DGP, he has been elevated to the Apex Scale of pay in Level 17 of the Pay Matrix, which will be effective from the date of taking over charge.
