Guwahati: The prevailing hot and humid conditions are likely to linger over the next two days, according to the Guwahati Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.
In a special weather bulletin, the RMC stated, “Due to prevailing partly cloudy to generally cloudy sky conditions, along with above normal maximum temperatures (3°C to 5°C above the normal) in some places of the Brahmaputra & Barak valley regions, hot & humid conditions are very likely to prevail over isolated places of Assam for next 48 hours. There will be no large change in maximum temperature over the region from the prevailing.”
Under the above high-temperature and high-relative-humidity scenario, the likely impact is tolerable heat for the general public but a slight health concern for vulnerable people (viz.: infants, elderly, pregnant women and sick people). Prolonged exposure to hot weather can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, other heat-related illnesses, and dehydration, it is stated.
The maximum temperature in Guwahati today is 36.4 degrees Celsius, which is 3.8 degrees more than the normal. Dibrugarh recorded 34 degrees, Silchar 35.1, and Lumding 36.8 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature on Sunday.
