
Guwahati : The investigation into the death of Assam’s musical icon Zubeen Garg took a significant turn on October 17, as the two main accused Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta were remanded to judicial custody. Both of them were transported to Haflong District Jail under tight security late at night, following their appearance before the court.
Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, the duo, under heavy security, were being moved to the jail after the Haflong Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court remanded them to judicial custody following 14 days in CID custody. Police promptly detained the individual responsible for the act. The two had earlier appeared before the court amid heightened public interest and tight security measures
As police vehicles arrived, hundreds of locals gathered outside, shouting “Jai Zubeen Da!” and holding placards with #JusticeForZubeenDa, expressing anger and sorrow over the tragic loss. Many demanded a thorough and transparent probe, asserting that the truth behind Zubeen’s untimely death must come to light. Sandals were also hurled at the vehicle carrying the accused.
Officials have assured the public that the case will be investigated with “complete fairness and diligence.” Meanwhile, the people of Assam continue to mourn the artist who was not just a voice, but a symbol of the state’s culture and spirit.
