The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that the State has registered 14,882 COVID-19 positive cases in the first five days of the ongoing month. State Health department data indicates that while 2,684 corona cases were registered on September 1, taking the positivity rate to 7.24% that day; 3,555 cases were registered on September 2, taking the positivity rate to 7.44% that day.

However, on September 3, the positivity rate slid to 6.25%, as 3,054 corona cases were detected during the day. But, the positivity rate moved up to 7.34 % as 2,891 corona cases were detected on September 4. The highest positivity rate of 7.67% was registered on September 5 when 2,698 cases were detected. Of these, Kamrup (Metro) district recorded the maximum number of 700 positive cases followed by Bongaigaon (190); Lakhimpur (151); and Kamrup (142).
