Housing for all by 2024: Just 33% of PMAY-G target met in Assam

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The State P&RD (Panchayat & Rural Development) Department has met only 33 per cent of the target number of PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin) houses. The department has completed 689599 houses. It is 47.37 per cent of the houses sanctioned till the first week of December 2022. The ground reality puts a question mark on translating the slogan – housing for all by 2024 — into a reality.

According to P&RD sources, the number of target houses in the state under the PMAY-G is 2084070. The number of houses sanctioned till the first week of December 2022 is 1455705.

Citing reasons behind the slow progress of PMAY-G, P&RD sources said that only 1455705 of the 2084070 targeted houses got sanctioned so far. They said that even after the sanction of the houses, lakhs of the target beneficiaries are on the waiting list. It is not all. Five lakhs of the target beneficiaries with PMAY-G houses sanctioned have not yet submitted their documents. And many of them have not registered their names with the scheme either.

The department completed 6,89,599 PMAY-G houses by December 2022, 9560 in 2021-22, 231365 in 2021-21 and 213976 in 2019-20.
