The marriage of a male before attaining 21 years of age and a girl before attaining 18 years is punishable under the relevant laws. Such marriages are injurious to health. The marriage of an underaged girl may lead to risk in pregnancy, giving birth to unhealthy offspring etc. However, this menace cannot be checked without participation by the society. Outside the city, each district has a Child Protection Unit, a Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
