Land Scam: Circle Officer of Dergaon Revenue Circle Arrested For Graft

Golaghat: The arrest of Circle Officer of Dergaon Revenue Circle, Homen Gohain Baruah has caused sensation and curiosity in Golaghat district.

As per report, Baruah was also serving as the Circle Officer at Karimganj. He was arrested on Monday by the Karimganj Police on charges of his involvement in an alleged scam involving the Land Ports Authority of India’s project at Sutarkandi in the district.

Baruah is suspected to be the prime accused in financial anomalies to the tune of Rs 6.60 crore. He was allegedly involved in corruption in the purchase of land for the Land Port Authority of India in Karimganj district at Sutarkandi along the India-Bangladesh border.

Altogether 41 cases have been registered against Barua at the Karimganj police station. In connection with the alleged scam, two employees, Pronit Nath and Mihir Ranjan Malakar of the Karimganj Circle Office, were also arrested.
