GUWAHATI: All governors and chief ministers of the states in the country, all ambassadors of G-20 nations, and ambassadors of South East Asian countries will be the invitees at the largest-ever Bihu Dance in a single venue, slated for April 14. The cultural extravaganza is to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the grand Bihu Dance, with the participation of 11,140 dancers and drummers at Sarusajai Stadium.
Informing the media of this, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We have already sent the dossier to Guinness World Records. They gave us initial clearance to go ahead. Bihu Dance will be an entry in the folk dance category.”
The Chief Minister said, “We have already started preparations for the mega dance event. We have constituted an expert committee that has made us clear about the dance, the song, and the costumes. Workshops will start on Wednesday at the district level. The ministers will go to all the states of the country to invite governors and chief ministers to be guests at the mega cultural event. The deputy commissioners will select the artistes as per the criteria given by the expert committee. It will be a 15-minute dance recital. Every artiste will get Rs 10,500 to purchase costumes.”
The Chief Minister said that the purpose of the event is to popularize Bihu Dance worldwide so that it can woo tourists.
The Chief Minister said, “From next year, the State Government will observe the Rongali Bihu (Bohag Bihu) in the traditional way for the first seven days at Ranghar Bakori and Surasajai Stadium. I appeal to the Bihu committees of the state not to raise funds for Bihu forcibly, especially from non-Assamese businessmen. This year also, the government will extend Rs 1.50 lakh to every Bihu committee that has completed ten years or more.
From March 1 to April 14, the government will start an intensified drive against power loom gamosa, mekhela chador, and arnai. Despite the standing ban on power loom gamosa, mekhela chador, and arnai, a special drive will continue against the sale of these three products during the period.
