GUWAHATI: DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress of various ongoing DoNER projects, besides unleashing Assam’s potential in different sectors, today.
The Chief Minister said that at the review meeting they discussed a roadmap to streamline supply chains in the Northeast through more investments in infrastructure, power and the last-mile linkages.
The Chief Minister and the DoNER Minister agreed to collaborate closely in unleashing Assam’s potential in muga silk productions, palm oil and agarwood cultivation, diverse tourism opportunities and transforming border villages into vibrant ones.
The Chief Minister said, “It was a very productive review meeting. The Union Ministry is working on a five-point framework to realise the prime minister’s vision of transforming our ashtalakshmi states.”
According to sources, the Assam government has laid stress on agarwood. In 2020, the state government notified the Assam Agarwood Promotion Policy. The policy said that agarwood has a huge potential of creating another green revolution in Assam after tea.
The objectives of the policy are to ensure sustainable utilisation of agarwood, including cultivation, harvesting, processing, transit and trade, and to encourage the growers’ planting of agarwood trees on their farms or private lands that will provide greater sources of earning.
