NHAI okays Rs 1,823 crore for 49-km stretch in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG: Considering the people's concern, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved a project costing Rs 1,823 crore for the 49-km stretch of road from Nriambaglo to Harangajao in Dima Hasao, the much-publicized stretch of NH, informed Regional Officer, NHAI, Alok Kumar.

Talking to this correspondent, Kumar disclosed that the portion from Nriambanglo to Jatinga was awarded to NKC and JKM years back but the work could not be completed. Thereafter, for emergent maintenance of this 24.5-km road, the work was awarded to M/s Ratna Infrastructure at Rs 20.5 crore.

"After my visit, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared with the help of JAICA, clubbing the packages from Nriambanglo to Harangajao 49-km stretch, for Rs 1,823 crore, where more than four km will be an elevated corridor with the latest technology. This new project is now approved and about to be tendered in September or November. This DPR is prepared to attract big companies to come, the design will be of the contractor and the NHAI would give the reference," he said.

In February 2020, a 19-km road from Jatinga to Harangajao also awarded to M/s Ratna Infrastructure with the target of two years and five years maintenance in EPC mode so that there would not be disruption of communication around the year. The contractor should also ensure no disturbance in regular traffic.

Kumar also informed that the lighting in the tunnel near Nriambanglo would be provided 24X7 from now on, which was frequently disturbed due to power failure. People of Dima Hasao who have been suffering due to the dilapidated condition of NH between Jatinga to Harangajao opined that if this portion was taken proper care of, then the Sourashtra to Silchar four-lane would have been completed long ago. The approval of this portion of NH has brought a sigh of relief to the people of not only Dima Hasao, but also for the people of southern Assam and neighbouring States like Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
