GUWAHATI/TANGLA/KOKRAJHAR: In a historic move, the first Bodo Xatradhikar, Niranjan Boro took charge of Borengajuli Xatra of Dimakuchi in Vaishnavite tradition on Tuesday, in the presence of eight xatradhikars, representatives of various ethnic groups of the state, besides the leaders of the AASU (All Assam Students' Union).

People took Xatradhikar Boro from Balisitha Xatra, his place of birth, to Borengajuli Xatra in a cultural procession.

Xatradhikar Boro got the elevation following the demise of the revered Xatradhikar, Late Hare Krishna Mahanta Deb, founder Xatradhikar of Borengajuli Xatra, on July 18, 2021.

Besides the Xatradhikars of eight xatras, AASU adviser Sammujal Bhattacharjya and several central committee members of the students' body attended the auspicious ceremony.

Bodo troupes performed traditional Kherai folk dance.

Xatradhikar Hare Krishna Mahanta Deb initiated Niranjan Boro at the tender age of six years in 1979.

Assuming charge, Xatradhikar Boro said, "I will try to take society forward, taking all ethnic groups together. I seek blessings and cooperation from people of all strata for the smooth running of this xatra and its 33 branches."

Talking to The Sentinel, AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya said, "It's a day of pride. It is a rare moment of going ahead by taking all ethnic groups together. It is the reflection of our great saint (mahapurush) Srimanta Sankardev's ideology."

BSS (Bodo Sahitya Sabha) president Taren Boro said, "It is a proud moment and historic day for the Bodos that Niranjan Boro has got this position. I welcome his elevation as the Xatradhikar and convey my gratitude for scripting history. He has got an opportunity to spread the teaching and philosophy of Srimanta Sankardev."

The BSS president said that Xatradhikar Niranjan Boro dedicated himself to spread the Sankari culture and faith for decades.

The BSS president hoped that Xatradhikar Niranjan would work and dedicate himself to peace, unity and national integrity.
