GUWAHATI: Over half of the grounded (under construction) houses under the PMAY-U (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana—Urban) are not yet complete in Assam. The scheduled target of the scheme is 2024.

PMAY-U Housing for all is a flagship programme of the Central Government. Mission Director under PMAY-U, Assam, is implementing the scheme in 100 urban areas in the state.

Of the 161476 houses sanctioned under the scheme in Assam, work began in 150799 houses (grounded), and 71466 of them were complete as of January 2023. Around 79333 of the under-construction houses in the state were incomplete as of January 2023. The work in 10677 of the sanctioned houses in the state has not yet started.

As of January 2023, the central assistance sanctioned for Assam under the programme was Rs 2445.88 crore, with the release of Rs 1313.79 crore.

Some of the 100 cities in the state where works under the schemes are running behind schedule are — Patachakuchi with 61 houses completed against 178 grounded, Bokolia with 182 houses completed against 3576 grounded, Langhin with 858 houses completed against 3132 grounded, Goreswar with 482 completed against 1680 houses grounded, Gossaigaon with 454 houses completed against 1000 grounded, Goalpara with 442 houses completed against 1594 grounded, Barpeta with 324 houses completed against 2833 grounded, Sarthebari with 145 houses completed against 744 grounded, Dhing with 878 houses completed against 1990 grounded, Raha with 528 houses completed against 1138 grounded, Tezpur with 3044 houses completed against 14886 grounded, Kajalgaon with 268 houses completed against 1017 grounded, Sonai with 183 completed against 1961 houses grounded and Guwahati with 2146 houses completed against 4427 grounded.

According to the Mission Director under PMAY-U in the state, work on the grounded houses is going smoothly. According to them, work on the 10677 sanctioned houses not yet grounded will also begin soon.
