AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday took sharp aim at both the Congress and the BJP at a large election rally in Kharupetia, Darrang district, telling voters that supporting Congress amounted to the same as voting for the BJP.

Owaisi was addressing a rally organised by the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex in the Dalgaon constituency — an event that drew thousands of supporters from across the region.

Owaisi accused the BJP of actively spreading communal hatred, but reserved equally sharp criticism for the Congress, saying the party had chosen silence over resistance and failed in its duty to protect secularism and democracy.

"The BJP is spreading hatred, and the Congress is remaining silent. Voting for Congress is equivalent to voting for the BJP," he said, urging voters to look beyond the two major national parties.

He appealed to voters across Assam to cast their ballots for AIUDF candidates, describing the party as the only political force genuinely capable of addressing the concerns of the Muslim community and safeguarding constitutional rights.

Owaisi expressed strong support for AIUDF chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, calling on voters to help consolidate Ajmal's position as the pre-eminent leader of the minority community in Assam.

"We want Maulana Badruddin Ajmal to emerge as the leader of the minority community in Assam," he said.

The rally was also addressed by Abdur Rahman Ajmal, son of Badruddin Ajmal and an AIUDF leader, who expressed confidence in the party's prospects in Dalgaon and called upon voters to back AIUDF in order to defeat what he described as communal forces.

Owaisi and other speakers at the rally highlighted the track record of AIUDF candidate Mazibur Rahman, the sitting MLA from Dalgaon, pointing to initiatives including the distribution of 10,000 bighas of land to the poor, the establishment of two colleges, and the construction of a river embankment in the constituency.

Owaisi specifically appealed to voters to support Azijur Rahman in Mangaldai and Mazibur Rahman in Dalgaon.

In his own address, Mazibur Rahman pledged to bring significant improvements in education, healthcare, and transportation if re-elected. "Serving the people remains my primary goal," he said.
