GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's April 14 visit is crucial for the healthcare sector in Assam and so also for the railway connectivity to the state.

During his one-day visit to Guwahati, the Prime Minister will inaugurate various projects of the NF Railway worth Rs 6,018 crore. With these projects, the total worth of projects that the Prime Minister will either inaugurate or lay foundation stones for is Rs 14,300 crore, including both central and state government projects.

According to sources in the State Government, the railway projects awaiting inauguration by the Prime Minister are doubling of railway track in the Digaru-Lumding section measuring 147 km with a project cost of Rs 1,827 crore, inauguration of a new 86-km railway line in the Gauripur- Abhayapuri Section costing Rs 1,267 crore, inauguration of a 102-km doubling line in the New Bongaigaon-Dhupdhara section costing Rs 1,909 crore, inauguration of electrification of 381-km Raninagar Jalpaiguri-Guwahati section costing Rs 862 crore, inauguration of the electrification of the 131-km Senchoa-Silghat Town and Senchoa- Mairabari section costing Rs 153 crore.

The Prime Minister will arrive at the LGBI Airport at 11.30 am tomorrow and reach Changsari at 12 noon for the inauguration of AIIMS-Guwahati and three medical colleges in the state, along with laying the foundation stone of IIT-Guwahati and the Assam Government’s joint venture, the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute.

From there, he will go to Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra around 2.15 pm for the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the Gauhati High Court. At 5 pm, he will be at Sarusajai Stadium, where he will virtually inaugurate several projects and lay the foundation stones of many others. He will inaugurate the Railway projects from there. He will enjoy the mega-Bihu recital at the stadium. He will address the people of Assam from all the venues.
