Post-Flood Health Crisis Hits Sivasagar as Diarrhoea Outbreak Claims Two Lives

GAURISAGAR: The flood situation in greater Jhanji, Gaurisagar, and its adjacent areas in Sivasagar district has slightly improved. After the water receded, many people left the camps and returned to their respective homes.

The flood victims are now facing another challenge - that of various infectious diseases due to the unhygienic conditions. They are now forced to use contaminated water due to a lack of adequate clean water. As a result, many people in various villages in the area are now suffering from fever, cough, diarrhoea, and skin diseases.

Two people in the greater Jhanji area of Sivasagar district under Morabazar PHC died of such post-flood diseases allegedly due to a lack of proper treatment. One of the victims, identified as Mahendra Neog (47) of Phulpanichiga Changmai village under Jhanji Bamun Moran revenue village in Hatighuli GP, died of fever and diarrhoea. He is survived by his elderly mother, wife, and two daughters aged 6 and 1.5 years.

On the other hand, a flood-affected teacher in the Jhanji Lefera village also reportedly died from fever and diarrhoea.
