GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Geology and Mining, which could not achieve its revenue collection targets in the past two financial years, has shown a remarkable achievement in the current financial year.

The report of the Departmentally Related Standing Committee on Development (A) Departments of the Assam Legislative Assembly revealed this fact.

According to the report, in the Financial Year 2020–21, the target of revenue collection for the Directorate was Rs 2383.12 crore, but it collected Rs 1489.20 crore (62.49 percent of the target). In the Financial Year 2021–22, the revenue collection target of the Directorate was Rs 2291.33 crore. However, the Directorate missed the target by a whisker. It could collect Rs 2281.63 crore (99.57 percent of the target).

The revenue collection target of the Directorate in 2022–23 is Rs 2500.41 crore. The Directorate has already collected Rs 3823.81 crore from April 2022 to February 2023. It is 152.92 percent revenue collection over the target. With the addition of the collection until March 31, the Directorate hopes that the total revenue collection will cross the Rs 4,000-crore mark. This is history for the Directorate.

The main source of revenue collection for the Directorate is crude oil from various oil companies.

The Directorate is under the administrative control of the Department of Mines and Minerals, Assam.
