GUWAHATI: The NIA (National Investigation Agency) filed the charge sheet before the NIA Special Court, Guwahati, against six accused persons in a case of trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into India [RC-05/2021/NIA-GUW) under Sections 120B, 370(3) and 370(5) of IPC].

The six accused are Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury @ KK Ahmed Chaudhury @ Asiqul Ahmed, Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury, Bapan Ahmed Choudhury, Sahalam Laskar, Jamaluddin Choudhury of Katigorah (all from Khelma village in Katigorah, Cachar) and Wanbiang Suting from East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

The case pertains to the trafficking of Rohingyas/ Bangladeshis into India for exploitation and to settle them in India permanently based on fake Indian documents. NIA registered the case suo-moto on December 27, 2021.

The investigation has revealed that the accused were involved in the organized trafficking of Rohingyas/Bangladeshi minor girls and women in association with other conspirators based in different parts of India and Bangladesh. The accused had arranged for transportation, accommodation, procurement of fake documents etc., for the trafficked Rohingyas.
