Guwahati: The Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA) has announced several recent upgrades to the Shiksha Setu mobile application to enhance accuracy, ease of use, and data reliability for educational monitoring.
The SSA brought the changes at a high-level review meeting with SSA Mission Director Dr. Om Prakash in the chair. The meeting brought several critical implementation updates and issued directives regarding ongoing educational and infrastructural initiatives under schemes such as Shiksha Setu, PM-POSHAN, and PMCSY.
On geo-fencing attendance radius, the meeting revised the Shiksha Setu application that used a 750-metre radius to mark teacher presence and a 500-metre radius to ensure better tracking of teacher attendance at designated locations.
Earlier, users faced difficulties in updating group-wise student data due to the unavailability of DAT (Data Acquisition Tool) files. A new feature now allows users to easily download and update all student- and group-related DAT files using the "Download AI Classes Info" and "Update AI Classes" buttons.
The facial recognition system of students often failed when multiple faces were present in the background during facial scans. The system now prompts a specific error message like 'There are multiple faces present in the background. Try again. It will help users understand and correct the issue quickly.
In some cases, the presence of a teacher was incorrectly marked as "outside school premises." To resolve this, the app now enables "use precise location" by default, ensuring more accurate geo-tagging for better attendance tracking.
One of the key concerns raised was the gap in student attendance data between the Shiksha Setu and PM-POSHAN (MIS & ARMS) platforms in certain districts. The mission director emphasized that attendance figures must be uniform across both platforms. The meeting instructed the district officials to sensitize schools immediately to ensure no discrepancy occurs in attendance records.
Regarding infrastructure, the meeting highlighted the release of school grants, with all schools directed to utilize the funds judiciously. APDCL dues must also be cleared by the schools without delay. It was reiterated that science laboratories must not be used as staff common rooms or for any unrelated purposes, preserving their exclusive educational function.
Addressing the low usage of Smart and Tele classrooms, the Mission Director expressed concern. He mandated ADCs, DMCs, ISs, DEEOs, and BEEOs to visit at least three schools using these facilities by August 7, gain hands-on experience, document their findings, and motivate teachers to engage with digital platforms like e-Kaksha, Mission Gyan, and Khan Academy.
Additionally, poor utilization of science labs was flagged, and all district officials have been instructed to ensure functional science labs by August 31, 2025.
