GUWAHATI: The Department of School Education, Assam, has asked the inspectors of schools in all the districts and the heads of all government high and higher secondary schools to submit details of school expenditures for the financial year 2022–23 by March 30 this year. The department has also asked the school inspectors and the heads of government schools to submit the total financial requirements for the financial year 2023–24.

In a WT message sent to all inspectors of schools and the heads of government high and higher secondary schools on March 24, the department asked them to submit utilization certificates of funds they had received from various sources in the financial year 2022–23 by March 30, 2023, besides their actual financial requirements for the financial year 2023–24. The would-be actual financial requirements for the financial year 2023–24 will include funds required for the payment of regular salaries, salaries for contractual teachers, wages for tutors and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) instructors, and others.

The department has made it clear that if the head of any school does not submit the utilization reports of funds spent in 2022–23, the department will not accept their actual financial requirement for 2023–24.

When contacted, an official of the Department of School Education said, "Submitting the expenditure details of the outgoing financial year by school heads is a routine affair. If the head of any school cannot spend the total amount they received from various sources, he needs to deposit the amount with the department. They also need to submit the actual financial requirements of the academic year ahead."
