Shiv Sena not to support the Citizenship Bill in Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI: Leaders from various political parties of the Northeast called on Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut in New Delhi on Friday. The MP assured the NE leaders of not supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

The Northeast delegation includes Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, AGP president Atul Bora, working president Keshav Mahanta, Biren Baishya and others.

“Shiv Sena will never support any Bill which is against country’s interest. I have told the leaders coming from Northeast that Shiv Sena will never support any Bill which is anti-people,” Raut said while talking to reporters. He said that the Northeast and Assam, as such, could not be another Jammu & Kashmir.

“Shiv Sena chief Udhav Thakery has also said that our party will never support any anti-people Bill,” said Raut.

The Northeast delegation is also likely to meet President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others.

Their proposed meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has been deferred due to the Budget presentation on Friday.

Sangma said that they would continue their tirade against the Citizenship Bill.

Interestingly, the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has not been included in the business of the Rajya Sabha that will continue till February 13.
