TINSUKIA: Supply of substandard food has been alleged at SAI (Sports Authority of India) COVID Care Centre located at Sarbananda Stadium, Tinsukia. While the in-house patients have been complaining about substandard food, the mandatory dietary menus have been allegedly violated.

Though Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Assam laid down specific SoP for providing food to persons in quarantine and supposed to spend Rs 500 per day against each person, according to information, the contractor in charge of the SAI Centre is allegedly supplying food much below the cost earmarked. The order stipulated the break-up cost as breakfast-Rs 80, lunch-Rs 150, dinner-Rs150, tea twice-Rs 40, water bottle- Rs 60 and packaging Rs 20. An insider in the Centre said that the cost of the food provided by the supplier would not be more than Rs 250. While tea and warm water were never served at the centre, some food items were spicy and not suitable for patients, alleged a COVID patient. The Centre accommodated around 25-30 patients in 2 blocks with regular incoming and outgoing patients.
