Guwahati: The Tea Board of India has issued notices to more than 4,000 tea export companies across the country for non-submission of online monthly export returns for the year 2024-25. Of this, around 142 companies are based in Assam.

As per Clause No. 30 of the Tea (Distribution & Export) Control Order, 2005, every business licensee registered with the Tea Board must submit monthly export returns through the online portal https://onlineapps.teaboard.gov.in/ of the Tea Board every month.

According to the Tea Board notice dated December 31, 2024, it is, however, noticed that many registered exporters of tea have failed to comply with the above said provision for the financial year 2024-25, thereby contravening the provision of Clause 30 of the Tea (Distribution & Export) Control Order, 2005 in relation to submission of information or returns by the business licensee.

The notice, therefore, directs the defaulting companies to submit the online monthly export returns mandatorily every month, failing which necessary action shall be initiated by the Tea Board as per the provisions of the Tea (Distribution & Export) Control Order, 2005.

The notice from the Tea Board is necessitated due to a large number of tea export companies not submitting the online monthly export returns from April to August 2024.

Tea Board sources stated that submitting the export returns is mandatory, even if a company has not exported any tea during the month concerned.

The notice was issued by the Tea Board’s Controller of Licensing. It was also stated that, earlier, many tea export companies had not submitted the online monthly export returns during the financial year of 2023-24, and a notice had been issued at that time too. Notices were issued to 2,284 tea export companies for non-submission of the monthly export returns for the financial year of 2023-24.
