Why people come to the Secretariat?

GUWAHATI: M/S KPMG recently carried out an exercise to understand why the citizens come to the Secretariat. The exercise revealed that top five departments attracting visitors are Education (27 per cent), PWD (19 per cent), Pension & Public Grievances (8 per cent), Irrigation (5 per cent) and Social Welfare Department (4 per cent). Out of the visitors, 39 per cent come to follow-up bills, 32 per cent come to follow-up files, 19 per cent come for commutation loans, 16 per cent come for school provincialization and 13 per cent come for employment-related inquiries. The study showed that most of the cases related to the visitors are old cases where no decisions have been taken for years together.
