GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa has made it crystal clear that the government will take all possible stringent action against each madrassa having links with jihadi or anti-India activities.

Reacting to the repercussions of the recent demolition of madrassas in the State, the Chief Minister said, "Our intention is only to see that jihadis do not use madrassas. If jihadis do not use madrassas for their activities or to spread the jihadi ideology, why will the government demolish madrassas?"

On the recent madrassa demolition in Morigaon, Barpeta and Bongaigaon, the Chief Minister said, "If we get specific input of any madrassas or guise of madrassas used for jehadi or anti-Indian activities, we will take all stringent action against each of them."

Reacting to the demolition of madrassas in the state, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said, "Madrassas are public properties which the administration cannot demolish without any prior legal notice. It is a direct attack on the education of children in minority-dominated areas."

Ajmal said, "If the police arrest a man for the jihadi link, they can act against him. We have nothing to say about that, even if the police shoot him dead. However, demolishing madrassas is not acceptable. If need be, we will move the court against such actions."

Reacting to the outburst from Ajmal, the Chief Minister said, "The court is open for all. We cannot prevent anyone from moving the court. The government will do its duty."

The Bongaigaon District Administration's order regarding the demolition of a madrassa in the district mentioned violation of several clauses of building laws as reasons. The district administration made no mention of the jihadi link.
