Nagaon: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and alleged that the party failed to contribute to Assam’s development during its tenure in power.
Addressing a public gathering in Nagaon Shah claimed that despite being in power in Assam from 2004 to 2014, the Congress party did little for the state’s growth.
“The Congress party has never done anything for the development of Assam. Your (Rahul Gandhi) government was in power for 15 years. What exactly did you do for Assam?” he said.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, the Union Home Minister said that between 2004 and 2014, when Congress was in power, only Rs 1.28 lakh crore was allocated to the state. However, the scenario changed completely when saffron party came into power.
“During this same 10-year period from 2014 to 2024, PM Modi has worked to provide Rs 9.78 lakh crore to Assam,” he claimed
Shah also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for bringing in large-scale investments.
“CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and PM Narendra Modi have worked to bring investments worth hundreds of thousands of crores to Assam,” he stated.
Shah further said that voting is scheduled to take place in Assam on April 9, and the time has come for the third time to form a government led by the BJP and the Asom Gana Parishad.
He added that the last ten years of governance would be remembered as a “golden period” in the state’s history.
Commenting on the Kaziranga, Shah said the park is located nearby and its rhinos have the potential to attract tourists from across the world, adding, "Congress governments had handed the park over to infiltrators".
Shah’s remarks come amid intensified campaigning ahead of the state elections.
