North Guwahati: Three Arrested with Fake Currency Worth Rs 3.82 Lakh

Guwahati: Three alleged members of a fake currency racket were arrested by Assam Police  after a chase operation near the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu in North Guwahati. Police also detained another suspect as part of the ongoing investigation into the network.

As per reports, the accused were travelling from Rangia towards Guwahati when police tracked their vehicle and intercepted it near the bridge after a brief pursuit. The arrested  people have been identified as Chinmoy Kalita of Rangia, Rashid Ali of Kalaigaon and Mohammad Sahil Ali of Chhaygaon.

The trio were travelling in a Hyundai Eon bearing a fake registration number, AS 23X 3739. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered  fake currency notes worth Rs 3,82,600. The seizure included fake Rs 100 and Rs 500 denomination notes.

In connection with the case, another person from Jalukbari in North Guwahati has been detained on suspicion of involvement in the racket.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kamrup district. Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the wider fake currency network and identify other persons involved.
