The total cost of the AMRUT projects in the state was pegged at Rs 625.71 crore. The committed Central Assistance (CA) for these projects was Rs 591.42 crore. Out of this amount, Rs 179.64 crore was released in 2021-22. On the other hand, an amount of Rs 16.54 was estimated for 'other components' of the project, out of which Rs 10.42 crore was released in 2019-20 and Rs 6.12 crore was released in 2020-21. The state government has already submitted Utilization Certificates (UCs) pertaining to Rs 139.45 crore out of the amount of Rs 179.64 crore released in 2021-22. On the other hand, the state government has also submitted UCs pertaining to Rs 14.65 crore out of the amount of Rs 16.54 crore released for 'other components'. It may be mentioned that the AMRUT scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June, 2015 under the Union Ministry of Urban Development with the focus on establishing infrastructure that could ensure adequate robust sewerage networks and water supply for urban transformation.

The scheme's goals include ensuring that every household has access to a tap with assured supply of water and a sewerage connection, increasing the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces such as parks, and reducing pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport. The thrust areas are water supply, sewerage facilities and septage management, besides storm water drains to reduce flooding.
