GUWAHATI: All Assam Students Union (AASU) organized an event entitled “ SEBA Basao Ahok, Rajyik Board Basao Ahok” meaning “Let’s save SEBA; let’s save state boards” in Guwahati on Monday. It was attended by several renowned citizens, educationalists and experts in the field of education from different districts of the state to discuss the restructuring of the state education boards after the recent incident of question paper leakage.

A statement regarding the decisions taken in this meeting was later released by President Utpal Sarma and General Secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah of AASU. Some of the key decisions are as follows:

The recent incident of the leakage of the HSLC question paper was an unforgivable mistake and no one responsible for the leak should escape unpunished. Problems of the students and their parents are paramount, and proper steps should be undertaken to prevent any reoccurrence.

SEBA and ASHEC are important organizations for the state, and steps must be taken to remove the problems and ensure their redevelopment. Also, steps must be taken toward getting back the lost reputation and respect. Educationalists, technical experts, teachers and general citizens should form a strong committee to ensure the proper functioning of the organisations. An experts’ committee should be entrusted to select the heads of these institutions, and they should have a rank equal to the Vice Chancellor of a state university, said the statement.

The examination controller and all other key officials should be allocated office for a fixed term, not exceeding three years. And since the question papers are kept at police stations for safekeeping, the police officials who were in charge of keeping the question papers safe should have the same responsibilty as the examination-in-charge, according to the statement. Expressing dissatisfaction about the investigation report submitted by the police, they also asked for an independent investigation of the alleged leak of the chemistry question paper of the ASHEC Examination, 2023.
