Guwahati: The Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) has begun preparations for the upcoming panchayat and autonomous council elections. In a significant move, the party held an extended executive committee meeting at its head office at Ambari, where several key decisions were made. AGP president and Assam cabinet minister Atul Borah shared some of these decisions with the media.
According to Borah, extended executive committee authorized party president to form two committees to oversee the election process of panchayat and autonomous council. The meeting also decided to speed up the membership drive of the regional party. The party had previously decided to conduct political workshops in every legislative assembly constituency, with 52 already completed and the remaining to be completed within the next 10 days. Extended executive committee meeting also decided to celebrate of Martyr Day on December 10, 2024. The event will be centrally observed at the birthplace of Sahid Khargeswar Talukdar in Bhabanipur. He was the first martyr of six years long Assam Agitation.
Furthermore, AGP's newly elected MLA of Bongaigaon, Diptimayee Choudhury was felicitated during the meeting. Other prominent party members were present in the meeting including working president Keshab Mahanta, Lok Sabha MP Phani Bhushan Choudhury, Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya and many others.
