GUWAHATI: The Assam College Teachers' Association (ACTA) has decided that its members will not participate in the upcoming Gunotsav programme, organized by the Government of Assam under Samagra Shiksha. ACTA took the decision in its executive meeting recently. The ACTA also wrote a letter to the Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA), to inform them of their decision. In the letter, ACTA highlighted several unresolved issues that have been affecting the service conditions, career progression, and overall well-being of college teachers in Assam. The association expressed its disappointment and frustration over the government's inaction, despite repeated assurances and representations.

The key demands of the ACTA include the solution of issues related to promotion lists published on January 24, 2024; delay in regularization, and promotion processes; as well as the absence of proper infrastructural support for higher education. The association has also expressed its discontent over the government's ignorance towards the legitimate demands of college teachers.

The ACTA has emphasized that the decision to boycott the Gunotsav is not taken lightly, as the teachers are committed to the cause of education and the welfare of their students. However, the association feels that this step has become necessary to draw the government's attention to their grievances.

The ACTA has urged the government to take immediate steps to address their demands, warning that failure to do so will compel them to consider further intensifying their agitation. The association has appealed to the government to treat their demands with the seriousness they deserve and to take concrete steps to resolve the issues at the earliest.

The Gunotsav will be held from January 6, 2025, to February 7, 2025, in three phases.
