Guwahati: In a major breakthrough in the Kharguli murder case, Latashil police on Tuesday arrested Bhaskar Jyoti Das, the brother of the deceased Bandana Das, for masterminding her brutal murder. Investigations revealed that Bhaskar provoked the victim's caretaker, Ratul Das, to kill his sister in a pre-planned conspiracy over property and a fixed deposit worth Rs 30 lakh.
This development came after Ratul Das was arrested for murdering 71-year-old Bandana Das by slitting her throat while she was asleep in her home on the night of July 1. Police earlier confirmed that Ratul confessed to the crime during interrogation and cited long-standing resentment due to alleged mistreatment by the victim.
However, further investigation revealed a deeper conspiracy. According to police sources, Bhaskar Jyoti Das allegedly manipulated and instigated Ratul to commit the murder with the motive of claiming ownership of Bandana's property and financial assets, including a substantial fixed deposit. Further investigation is ongoing.
