GUWAHATI: The master trainers' training programme for the 'Jhumair Binandiya,' a grand Jhumur dance recital scheduled to be performed on February 24 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai, Guwahati, concluded today. As many as 367 master trainers had been receiving training at Rongghar Bakori at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here since January 6, 2025.

The training of the dance was in sync with a song prepared by Jhumur singers, Sajen Nayak and Dulal Manki, as the model. The training was in accordance with a videographed dance of this model song. The 367 master trainers will go to the LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) to train dancers from January 20 to 23, 2025. From January 27 to February 2, 2025, the selection of dancers from LAC-wise trained dancers will be underway in the respective LACs. The selected dancers will perform at district levels from February 3 to 13. On February 20, authorities will bring all these dancers to Guwahati for the final rehearsal session from February 21 to 23 at Sarisajai. Then, on February 24, as many as 8,000 dancers will perform the grand Jhumur dance recital at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai, Guwahati, in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah took part in the concluding training of the master trainers today and interacted with them.

Jumur dance is one of the main dances of Adivasis and tea tribes who perform it with Karam Utsav.

Some of the key arrangements include safe lodging, transportation, and medical assistance for participants and trainers. DCs with large contingents of performers have been asked to personally monitor the preparations, and co-district commissioners have been urged to provide assistance. Coordination with guardian ministers, MLAs, and the additional chief secretary of the cultural affairs department has also been requested.
