GUWAHATI: Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) adviser Brojen Mahanta on Friday expressed concern over the recovery of a large number of illegal arms in the run-up to the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) elections. Addressing a press meet, Mahanta said, “During the signing of the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) agreement 1,600 NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland) cadres surrendered and handed over only 159 guns. Where are the other guns?”

He asserted that “There are many such illegal guns are flowing in the region and the administration should conduct a search operation to recover these weapons. During election time these weapons might be used.”

Further, the leader stated that if the BTC elections are postponed because of coronavirus, then the party will welcome the decision.
