
GUWAHATI: Banikanta Kakati Centre for Indian Knowledge System of KKHSOU organized a lecture on "Relevance of Indian Knowledge System in 21st Century" that was held on Friday at the city campus of KKHSOU.
The lecture was delivered by Prof. Amalendu Chakrabarty, former Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai. The lecture programme started with a Guru bhatima by Mayuri Deka. Dr. Pranati Devi, Director of Banikanta Kakati Centre for Indian Knowledge System, delivered the welcome address.
Prof. Amalendu Chakrabarty, while delivering his speech, immensely focused on Indian wisdom starting from the Veda, Upanishad, and Gita. He also laid emphasis on exploring the root of Indian culture through his speech. According to him, philosophy is the essence of knowledge. To know something, philosophical knowledge, which is rooted in Indian Culture is very much important. He, in this context, essentially referred to Indian philosophical systems, especially the Vedanta system, which talked about Brahman or Absolute Reality. He also talked about oneness irrespective of class, creed and religion which not only the Vedanta system of Sankara but also Sankaradeva through his Ek Sarana Nama Dharma emphasised. Besides, he also discussed the importance of using the medium of Assamese language, which NEP 2020 had stated.
Vice-chancellor of KKHSOU, Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das, in his speech, discussed the relevance of IKS in the present day context. The programme was attended by faculty members, directors, officers, and research scholars of KKHSOU. Dr. Indrani Deka, Co-ordinator of Banikanta Kakati Centre for Indian Knowledge System, offered the formal vote of thanks while Dr. Bhaskar Bhattacharyya, Co-coordinator of the Centre, anchored the programme, stated a press release.
