Guwahati: Allegations of massive irregularities have surfaced regarding toll tax collection at several toll gates across Assam. Notably, widespread discrepancies have been reported from Raha. Shockingly, money has been collected through FASTag from vehicle owners who did not even pass through these toll points.

In a startling incident, Nirpen Malakar, a resident of Sarumataria in Guwahati and a lawyer at the Gauhati High Court, claimed that toll tax was deducted from his vehicle (registration number AS01 FD0101) at Raha toll gate while it was parked at his residence. Around 9 AM on Thursday, Malakar received a message on his mobile stating that Rs. 120 had been collected as toll tax from the Raha toll gate, despite his four-wheeler being parked in his home garage at that time.

Malakar immediately lodged an FIR at the Dispur Police Station, prompting the police to register a case. Recently, similar incidents have been reported from various toll gates across the state, leaving vehicle owners anxious and apprehensive.

Malakar also expressed concerns that if toll tax could be deducted while his vehicle was stationary at home, it raises the possibility of miscreants using his vehicle number for illegal activities.
