Guwahati: Several prominent leaders, including ULFA (pro-talk) leader Drishti Rajkhowa, joined the BJP here today.
The state BJP organized a grand joining ceremony at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the state party headquarters in Guwahati, on Thursday. The event witnessed the formal induction of several influential leaders from various political parties and socio-cultural organizations into the BJP fold.
The programme was held under the leadership of state BJP president and Member of Parliament Dilip Saikia. The notable personalities who joined the party are Manoj Rabha, alias Drishti Rajkhowa—tribal leader; Manas Sarania—prominent advocate; Manoj Dhanowar—former AAP Assam president; Arjun Chettri—vice president, Assam Gorkha Sammelan & former president, All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU); Nirmal Payeng—former general secretary, Raijor Dal Youth Wing; Amal Patowary—former AGP secretary; Madhurya Goswami—former Sonitpur district congress president; Prashanta Saikia—former Nagaon Congress president & retired associate professor; and Aseem Samua—renowned advocate.
They were joined by over a hundred representatives from various regional outfits, student bodies, and civil society groups, marking a significant boost to the BJP’s grassroots and community outreach.
Addressing the gathering, Dilip Saikia said, “The BJP is not just a party; it’s a family open to all who believe in serving Maa Bharati. Each of you has taken a bold step in joining this nationalist mission to build a stronger India and a prosperous Assam.”
Drishti Rajkhowa was an active member of the ULFA from 1979 to 2022, during which he held the post of ‘deputy c-in-c.’. After laying down arms, he returned to his native place in Goalpara.
Expressing support for the BJP-led government’s eviction drive, Rajkhowa said that he was pleased with the strong action taken under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “If we cannot protect our land, people, and heritage, we’ll never be able to exist.”
