Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has levied a hefty fine of Rs 73,000 on a resident of Sankar Nagar in Lalganesh for illegally disposing of construction materials on a public road. The action was part of GMC’s ongoing enforcement drive to uphold urban cleanliness and civic discipline.

Announcing the penalty through its official handle on X, the civic body reiterated its zero-tolerance approach: “The Rule is Very Simple - You Dump, You Pay.”

Officials clarified that the crackdown is aimed at curbing obstruction of public roads and footpaths caused by indiscriminate dumping of construction debris and other waste. “The roads are meant for the public, not as dumping grounds,” a GMC official asserted, emphasizing that such actions severely hinder movement and public hygiene.

The GMC has urged residents to adhere to municipal regulations and has warned of strict penalties for violators. Citizens have also been encouraged to report instances of illegal dumping to aid in keeping the city clean and accessible.
